Staples boss moves on

The office equipment retail giant Staples recently announced that Mike Miles, Staples inc president and chief operating officer, will assume responsibilities for Staples International company as from the start of September. Miles takes on the company responsibilities from Peter Ventress who has taken the decision to leave staples inc to accept a position as CEO of a UK-based public company.

"I'd like to thank Peter for his contributions to the company over the past year. He's been instrumental to the success of the Corporate Express integration effort. We wish Peter all the best in the future," said Ron Sargent, Staples chairman and CEO. "As we move ahead, Mike brings his tremendous leadership skills to his new responsibilities. He will drive our growth throughout Europe and in high-growth markets as Staples works to become the world's best office products company."
Miles joined the Staples organisation back in 2003 as chief operating officer and was then promoted 3 years later to president and chief operating officer. He has continued to drive growth across the company's North American office supplies business units, entering new retail markets in the office equipment and filing products market, acquiring new business delivery customers and expanding product and service offerings beyond office supplies. Miles will now be responsible for all of Staples' international businesses.

Yeah we have all heard the news recently about the 40 year anniversary of man landing on the moon but this month sees another great birthday. This time the office supplies and stationery products super product Pritt stick is also 40 years old.

Wen Neil Armstrong uttered those immortal words ' One small step....... (you know the rest) Henkel, the makers of Pritt sticks and other office glue products; was launching the new and exciting range of convenient adhesive glues called Pritt. The idea, like all great ideas came to the inventor when he least expected it. Henkel researcher Dr W. Dietrich's was on an aeroplane minding his own business when he noticed a woman sitting near him applying her lipstick. Eureka!! a small, easy to apply, portable and very accurate applicator that would work perfect in the application of adhesive glue. It took a further two years of research and development for Dr Dierichs and the team at Henkel to launch the product tat was soon to revolutionise the way office workers, school children and even industry was to apply glue.

Bring this all forward to the present day and the Pritt brand has produced more than 2 billion units, producing enough glue to stretch the to the moon, mars and back here to Earth.
